AviaDBM Resources
Knowing where you are is important for all pilots. Even if I always try to follow my flight path with my thumb on a real map, a GPS is a great tool both for planning and performing your trip. However, not all airfields or SUA airspace sectors are included in the databases in common aviation GPS units. If it's not in the Jeppesen™ database, it's probably not in your GPS. So, how about local SUA airspace such as soaring sectors, ATZ etc? There is a solution which makes it possible to addcustom airspace and airports to a Garmin aviation GPS unit.
AviaDBM is a great program for keeping your Garmin aviation GPS up to date with your own non-ICAO information such as airports, intersections or SUA airspace. As a member of Stockholm Soaring Club, I use AviaDBM for Långtora, the airport I mostly fly from, and the airpace around it that is reserved for soaring, but also for airfields without their own ICAO designator. For those airfields, I use the custom prefix ESX, like ESXL for Långtora, where I have also specified the runway coordinates so that they are drawn on the GPS map display.
These files are available for your personal use only, i.e. you can download them and merge them into your own GPS, but you will need AviaDBM to do it. I strongly recommend buying it!
